Mother Lode Church

The “little church with a big heart,” otherwise known as Mother Lode Church (MLC), is deeply rooted in our valley community. Its founder was Albert “Pop” Nobell and the first meeting took place on July 4, 1957, at the historic landmark Emmanuel Church building in Marshall Gold Discovery State Park. As the church grew, it stayed true to its motto:

“No law but love, no creed but Christ.”

To acquire additional space, in 1962 MLC leased the Old Coloma School building originally constructed in 1890 outside Kelsey which was moved to Coloma in 1930, and stood idle since 1957 when the new Gold Trail Elementary school opened.

The church quickly outgrew both the Emmanuel and Old Coloma School facilities and built on its own site in 1966 along the American River in Lotus, directly opposite Henningsen Park. At nighttime, you’ll find our location by the lighted cross next to the river, but the physical address is 870 Beach Ct, Lotus.

Whether you’re a rancher, rafter, retired, or only wish you were, you’ll find a warm welcome here.

We share a common love and appreciation for the big beautiful backyard God blessed us with here in the valley. The intelligent design of nature reminds us that our benevolent Creator has a wonderful design for us, too!

We know that life doesn’t work so well when we deviate from that design, and sin eventually leads to brokenness. We openly confess that we’re all broken in various ways, which is one of the reasons MLC has a long welcoming relationship with the clients at the local Men’s and Women’s Progress (rehab) Houses. We know that Jesus is the answer to our brokenness, and when we find new life in Him, we celebrate the fact we can then recover and pursue God’s beautiful design for our lives.

MLC is a non-denominational community Bible church associated with The Evangelical Free Church of America. Every Sunday, longtime neighbors and first-time valley visitors join us for music, fellowship, and biblical preaching. We sponsor community events like:

  • Lunch and Learn—Guest lectures on topics of local interest
  • Good News Clubs at Cool and Georgetown Elementary Schools
  • Easter Service Breakfast and BBQ
  • A Fall Family Festival with games, candy, and prizes
  • Kids’ Summer Soccer Camp: July 29-Aug 2, 2019
  • A Faith Community Nurse advocate and advisor

From all of us at MLC, sincere wishes and prayers for a safe, fun, and prosperous season!

Jeremiah 29:7 says, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you…Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
