The valley is a place to enjoy year-round. Summer is a time for cooling off in the river. Fall brings the harvest and spectacular yellow and gold foliage. Winter is a time of gentle rains (snow seldom falls here because of the low elevation), and spring boasts mild temperatures, green hills and lavish displays of poppies, lupine and other wildflowers.
Spring
Bursting with green, blossoms. Quiet, not yet tourist season. Poppies on the hillsides. River running cold and getting higher as the snow melts in May.

Summer
Peak recreation season. Sunny and hot. Water feels good, refreshing.
Whitewater rafting and kayaking. Don’t forget to check for photos and videos.
All outdoor recreation. For dry land activities, get an early start and carry water.
Busy and bustling, all businesses open, lots of food/lodging choices.
Autumn
After Labor Day, pace slows a bit, but September still offers lots to do. Whitewater still flowing. Weather is milder but not yet wet, great for hiking, biking.
October: Coloma Gold Rush Live.
Wineries, shopping, Placerville Arts Association’s Studio Tour.
Winter
Quiet, peaceful, uncrowded, green, beautiful.
Cozy B&Bs.
December: Historic Holiday House in Coloma, Gold Discovery Day.
Holiday shopping, wineries, arts/galleries. Some businesses close during the winter, so be sure and book lodging. Check to see which restaurants and cafes are open.
